Chernobyl On Wheels Makes Its Delivery

The Guardian reports that not everyone in Europe is thrilled about closing the nuclear circle. Three thousand protestors delayed a train carrying high-level nuclear waste to a temporary storage site in Germany.

The train, nicknamed “Chernobyl on wheels,” because it carried 123 tons of nuclear waste, arrived today at a railway depot in northern Germany after a three-day trip from France marred by repeated clashes between police and protesters trying to halt the delivery.

The train arrived in the town of Dannenberg where it will be loaded onto trucks for the final 12-mile leg to a storage site at Gorleben. The loading is expected to last most of the day.

The train completed the latest leg of its journey after about 3,000 protesters were removed from the tracks by police using pepper spray and water cannons.
