AP: Taliban suicide bomb hits NATO convoy, kills 18

A Taliban suicide bomb hit a NATO convoy Tuesday in the Afghan capital, Kabul. The attack killed six troops – five Americans and one Canadian – and twelve Afghan civilians. The bomb also destroyed nearly 20 vehicles.

The attack comes despite increased efforts to better secure the capital city. It is the deadliest attack for NATO troops in the area since September. In a similar attack, bombers stormed two small downtown hotels killing 16 people in February.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mhjahid told the Associated Press that the attack was aimed at the foreign convoy and that the bomber, a man from Kabul, detonated a car packed with 1,650 pounds of explosives.
