NYT: N.Y. Assembly Approves Fracking Moratorium

The New York Assembly voted for a temporary moratorium on natural gas drilling using hydraulic fracturing with horizontal drilling. The Senate has already passed a similar bill. The Independent Oil and Gas Association of New York is asking Governor David Paterson to veto the bill.

Halliburton: A Company As Good As It’s Flack’s Word?

Of nine companies the Environmental Protection Agency asked for details of what is in Hydrofracting chemicals sold for natural gas extraction only one company refused the EPA’s request – Halliburton. Now EPA has announced it was using a subpoena to Halliburton seeking the requested information on hydraulic fracturing. EPA’a xconcern is what these chemicals will do to drinking water where fracking takes place.  When DCBureua.org called Halliburton we were told the company was only accepting email inquiries about this latest

This is curious since in late September, Teresa Wong, manager of Public Relations for the Company claimed to DCBureau.org that Halliburton would cooperate. In fact she sent DCBureau.org this statement by email:

Chevron Pays $4.3 Billion for Marcellus Shale Gas

Chevron is buying Atlas Energy to expand its interest in natural gas deposits in the Marcellus Shale in Pennsylvania. The second-largest energy company in the Unites States, Chevron’s purchase is another big investment in natural gas after the larger Exxon Mobil bought XTO Energy last year. These deals continue despite the low price for natural gas and environmental concerns about the natural gas extraction technique called hydraulic fracturing.

NYT: E.P.A. to Study Chemicals Used to Tap Natural Gas
