If you go to The New York Times, click on Business and then click on Energy, you can see the country’s energy future unfold. Gone are the promised green jobs from the Obama administration. Wind energy companies are losing contracts. Solar panel manufacturing plants are closing. The Obama White House has given up on climate change “cap and trade” legislation and is facing a new Congress with members ready to reign in the EPA.

GOP Says No New START Vote During Lame Duck Session

Obama Administration hopes that the lame duck Senate will pass the nuclear arms reduction treaty with Russia have been diminished. According to a story by Laura Rozen in Politico, “… a Nov. 5 memo from the Republican Policy Committee to Senate GOP staffers asserts that ‘it’s not time for the Senate to vote’ on the U.S.-Russian strategic arms control treaty.’”  The memo said: “Although the treaty may very well preserve the ability of the United States to modernize its nuclear forces, it in no way answers the question of whether the Obama Administration is sufficiently committed to that end.” According to Rozen, Republican Policy Committee national security staffer Michael Stransky wrote the memo, which reviews the points in a State Department fact sheet on new START that was distributed last week.

Los Angeles Times: Deadliest Year in Afghan War

A helicopter crash in southern Afghanistan killed 9 troops.  Combat deaths increased dramatically in June and July with the “surge” in military personnel authorized by President Obama.

NYT: U.S. Debates Karzai’s Place in Fighting Corruption

The Obama administration is deciding whether or not to let Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai have more control over fighting corruption in his own government. Saddled with the ethically-challenge government, the White House has asked the Pentagon, State Department, Justice Department and CIA to work to isolate the corruption.
